A supported plan, tailored to you and your whenua.
Tailored support and planning for people making the move to a rural life.
People arrive on the land, full of plans and enthusiasm, but lacking experience and support.
Many leave within a few years, burnt out, disillusioned, and feeling they've wasted a whole lot of time and money.
Most of the biggest mistakes, and the biggest stress, happen in that first year.
With the right support and a solid plan, a lot of that can be avoided.
the roadmap
The roadmap lays out the whole journey. It includes your site analysis and concept map, and comes to you as a PDF in A4 format, ready to print and keep in a clearfile for quick, regular reference.
It starts with an overview of you, your land, and your vision.
From there it's a staged, prioritised plan, chunked into short, mid and long term, then chunked again into the year ahead in detail, season by season and month by month, with what comes beyond in brief.
That gives you a clear focus, makes planning easier, and keeps a lot of the otherwise inevitable distractions at bay.
The roadmap also helps you build your connection with, and understanding of, the place you're living. It gets you into the habit of observing and recording: rainfall, shade, wind direction and strength, soil, insects, wildlife, and the challenges and wins along the way. Over time it becomes something you can look back on from your early days, and keep referring to in the years ahead.
Planned remotely, wherever you are
I start with your site data from online sources like maps and climate records.
The Site Walk Guide then gives me clear, specific information about your property without a physical visit, which keeps the cost down and means this works for people anywhere in Aotearoa. It also gets you involved early. Working through the guide, you'll notice things about your land you hadn't before,
and when your site analysis arrives, it will make sense to you on a deeper level.
You'll understand the why and the where, not just the what.
Your site analysis
Your site analysis looks at the physical and environmental factors on your property: sun, wind, slope, views, noise, dust, and anywhere you might want screening for privacy. It shows you what your site makes possible and what it limits, so decisions about where things go are based on the land rather than guesswork.
Your concept map
Once there's a clear picture of your site, the concept map gives you a visual of the big picture, so you can start laying the foundations. You'll use it alongside your roadmap.
How it works:
book your first call
Once you're booked, you'll be redirected to a private page on the Foodscapes website,
where you'll find more information, a short video, and your client intake form.
The intake process gives me a clear snapshot of where you're at right now, so we get the most out of our time together.
stage 1: our first call
We work through your needs, goals, resources and constraints.
Afterwards you'll get a written summary covering what to focus on now, what should wait, and things to think about,
as well as your personal strengths and opportunities, and any areas of concern.
You'll come away from this call with confidence about what to focus on first.
stage 2: Your site walk
You'll get the Site Walk Guide to complete within two weeks and send back. If required, I'll email you with any further questions or considerations, and we schedule a 30-minute call where I hand over your site analysis and a draft concept map, and we check everything lines up with what you want.
stage 3: your roadmap
I make any final changes to the concept map and create your roadmap.
We schedule a handover call to go through it and answer your questions.
one month later
One month later, I'll check in via email, and we'll schedule another 30-minute call to talk through
anything you might need help with.
During your 12-month roadmap period, you can also join the ongoing mentoring programme for $25 a week.

about calleigh
Setting up land is a lot, especially your first time. I get it, because I've done it, and I'm still doing it.
My training spans agriculture, arboriculture, organic horticulture and permaculture design,
and more than 20 years of hands-on work: farming, market gardening, nursery production, and tree and garden care.
I've set up off-grid from scratch twice, and I've lived off-grid full-time for the past four years.
I know what it takes to establish a productive, resilient property, because I've done it, not just studied it.A parent and grandparent, I think in generations.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME?
We have bare land. Is it too early?
No, this is the best time, before anything permanent goes in.
We plan to go off-grid. Can you help?
Absolutely. I live this.
The roadmap can cover where power, water and wastewater sit within the big picture.
Note: it doesn’t engineer or size the systems themselves. I can provide general guidance on these components individually as part of the roadmap, but in-depth planning would require additional support. We can discuss this in our call.
We lease our land rather than own it.
Yes. The plan accounts for what you can and can’t change.
We’ve been here a few years already.
Yes. The roadmap still sorts out what to do next.
If you're struggling, overwhelmed, or in a bit of a rut, the roadmap can definitely help you get on track
We haven't bought yet.
Foodscapes offer support to those at this stage of their journey.
A one-on-one consultation can help you clarify exactly what you're looking for in your "forever home",
and when you're ready, pre-purchase site evaluation or comparison.

Our whānau is returning to whenua.
Whether you’re building from scratch or bringing an existing homestead back to life, the roadmap works the same way.
It starts with what’s already there, and with what your whānau wants the land to do.
You bring the knowledge of the whenua and its history.
I bring the practical planning: water, access, shelter, food growing, and the order to tackle it all in.
When several people are involved in decisions, the roadmap can give everyone the same clear plan to work from.
